Marlys L. Goodenbour

Marlys L. Goodenbour, 82, of Tripoli, died Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Tripoli Nursing and Rehab in Tripoli. 

Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the church preceding the funeral service. 

Marlys Larraine, daughter of Leonard and Elsie (Nuss) Mohlis was born June 25, 1934, in Sumner. She was baptized on July 15, 1934 and confirmed on March 21, 1948 by Pastor A.J. Lechner at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek. Marlys attended the church’s parochial school and after her schooling, she worked on her parent’s farm. On August 15, 1954, she was united in marriage with Cletus H. Goodenbour by Rev. Hugo Beyer at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek. The couple made their home in Tripoli where Marlys was a house wife and mother. Marlys had a cake decorating business that she operated out of her home, and in 1970 started working as a cook for the Tripoli Community School. Following Cletus’ death on February 15, 1978, she finished building the couple’s home in Tripoli. Marlys worked for a brief time as a cook for Maple Hills Country Club in Tripoli before working full time as a cook and janitor at the Tripoli High School, where she worked many long hours. After twenty five years of service she retired in July of 1995. Marlys was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for seven years,  Altar Guild for 26 years, fellowship committee for five years, Lydia Circle, and was a hospice volunteer.  Marlys enjoyed gardening, her flowers, bird watching, but most especially time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Marlys is survived by her two sons, Rick Goodenbour of Tripoli and Mark (Bonnie) Goodenbour of Tripoli; two grandsons, Aaron (Angel Kelly) Goodenbour and Ryan Goodenbour; sister Bernice Wilharm of Sumner; brother-in-law, Paul Schwake; and sister-in-law, Darlys Schulz.

In addition to her husband, Cletus, she was preceded in death by her parents, special grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mohlis;  two brothers, Ralph (Judy) and Harold Mohlis; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Whimp) Kueker and Verla Schwake; and one brother-in-law, Marvin Wilharm.

Mark so sorry to here about your mom. From time to time I do look at gazette or the Milnes funeral home when I saw her picture. You all are in my Prayers.

Mark, I was so sorry to hear about your mother's recent passing. She was such a nice lady. I always liked seeing her in the school cafeteria. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. May she rest in peace.
